This chair can inflate itself through a manual process, pressing the front down repeatedly, although it's not automatic it means it doesn't need a separate pump, making it more portable. It's easy to use and fairly comfortable. It works well enough, but my 7 month old has managed to lean enough to fall out of it, so it's worth keeping an eye on them and being close by while they're in it.

Hauling baby gear about can feel like weight-training, so stumbling across a seat that disappears into a rucksack came as a pleasant surprise. The chair is inflatable, made from soft BPA-free PVC and rated to hold roughly 30 kg. There is a neat little hand pump tucked into the base, and with a bit of puffing and a few firm foot presses it takes around three minutes to bring the thing to life. Once full, the broad back and raised armrests give the baby a sort of airborne cuddle, while clever air vents and a grippy underside help keep the wriggler cool and upright. The good news first: it is feather-light, folds completely flat and wipes down easily after those inevitable yoghurt incidents. The squeaky ears are an unexpected bonus, distracting the baby just long enough for a clean spoon to land. It even endured a Sheffield-to-Glasgow train journey wedged between chess books and tyre levers, so top marks for portability. Not everything is rosy. The built-in pump demands a bit of gusto and the cup holder has a suspiciously flimsy feel. More importantly, the PVC is on the thin side; set it straight on gravel and you will soon be searching for pin-holes, so a picnic blanket or towel underneath is a wise precaution. Still, as a travel high chair or an improvised bath prop it earns its keep. For parents short on time and boot space it offers a genuinely handy blend of convenience and durability, and that, in my book, is good value.
